Although I haven't used one I see the same pros and cons you mentioned. If I was doing travel writing as much as I used to I would definitely see the benefit of the Kindle. Now that I am more homebound, I love to snuggle up with my books and magazines. And, I don't think I purchase that many books each year for it to be financially smart for me. Thanks for the review. My husband surprised me with it for Christmas, and between the free books I've downloaded, and savings on the other books, we've probably recouped almost half of the cost already. My biggest problem (and it's not Kindle's fault) is that the whispernet only works in 2 corners of my house, neither of which are easy to stand in. So I put the Kindle in those corners when I want it to automatically update. It's not a big deal, because if I just take it for a ride in the car, it works fine. But I'm somewhat annoyed that I can't browse from home. It's really my fault for living in a rural location. One thing I love is that there is a Kindle app for the iphone / ipod touch. I have an ipod touch, and therefore have all my Kindle books there too. It's not the best for long-term reading, but knowing that I can slip it in my pocket and have all those books handy is nice.
