Let’s Bake a Family

It’s an undeniable fact that families come in all different shapes and sizes, and this reality is affirmed and celebrated in Chrita Paulin’s new children’s book, Let’s Bake a Family.

Through simple illustrations and the narrative of a child, the story of a boy named Kyle is told– from his first impressions of his divorced father’s girlfriend, through the years as a new family takes shape around him. Kyle expresses mixed feelings throughout, both apprehension and joy, and this brings affirmation to children who may find themselves in a similar situation. Kyle and his new stepmom soon form a bond centered around baking together, and their relationship solidifies over the years. Narrated with a child’s voice, the story is tender and sweet, and the love shown by the entire family is uplifting. While divorce and remarriage is never an easy experience for any child, Let’s Bake a Family portrays the potential for the positive side of it, bringing lots of love together and making a child feel cared for and treasured.
