Reading the review, I also thought of The Kite Runner. However, some readers who have commented about Rooftops in Iran have caused me to think that the differences in the two are enough to read this one. Isn't it funny when we read a book that might be completely out of our normal context that we assume another book even remotely similiar might be a rerun? We would never think this in our contemporary fiction preferences, but it is so easy to do when the setting is more exotic!

I too have just finished reading Rooftops of Tehran-I agree with Jennifer-- Admittedly, Rooftops of Tehran, has a richer breadth, and depth of plot and character development and evolution than the KiteRunner. The sense of community and that unexpected fimiliarity which is sparked in the reader by Rooftops, turns the pages.
Rooftops of Tehran is simple story, which in its innocence on one hand, the bitter reality of injustice on the other, manages to remind us that we are not defined by our differences- and that our biggest differences make us the same.
Indeed this is a message the world needs to hear today.
