Have fun reading the book! I read the 1200 page book before watching any of the adaptations. I have to admit, the book ruined all of the movies. After reading the book and then watching the movies, I thought the movies did a terrible job with their interpretations. The only movie that I felt was fairly loyal was the French version, which is subtitled and 8 hours long. Also, if you like Gérard Depardieu, you will really like the French version of the film.

It's funny you should ask about the quality. I've never seen it on video or DVD. My husband recorded it when it was shown on television about 20 years ago, and that's what we watch. LOL!!! It's really fun to watch all of those old commercials.

You can, however, watch it instantly on your computer with a Netflix membership.

Terrific review.
I am going to read the book first before viewing a screen version. I am thinking I may lean more towards the 1975 version but not sure. Sometimes with older productions the quality is so poor that it is hard for me to view. How was the quality?
