The House in Grosvenor Square

I recently returned to 19th Century England to finish the story of Ariana Forsythe and Phillip Mornay, in The House in Grosvenor Square. I was introduced to these delightful characters in Before the Season Ends, which I reviewed here.

As Ariana and Phillip near their wedding day, the bride-to-be is flustered by her fiance’s sudden aloofness. She doesn’t realize that Phillip’s keeping his distance because he fears he loves her so much. Their relationship is at once playful and intensely romantic, and I enjoyed watching it grow. My one complaint is that there were almost too many characters and too many things happening at once. I would’ve preferred a simpler plot. Still, overall, I actually liked the book a lot.

Author Linore Rose Burkard has written a third book, The Country House Courtship, which focuses on Ariana’s younger sister Beatrice. It’s definitely going on my wish list!

Melissa has been captivated by books for as long as she can remember. She resides in Virginia and blogs at Breath of Life.
