Home Another Way

The storyline of Home Another Way sounds cliche, and not unlike your token Christian romance: big city girl comes to small mountain town to claim her inheritance after the death of her dad only to find there’s glitch–she must live in the small town for a certain amount of time before she can get the money. Throw in a few unconventional characters, a handsome bachelor, and well, you can fill in the blanks yourself.

Except that in this novel, Home Another Way, author Christa Parrish takes the usual and the formulaic and transforms it into something unusual and fresh with her honest and flawed portrayal of Sarah Graham, the big city girl who blows into Jonah, New York with one goal: get her money and get out. Fast.

Sarah hardly fits the norm of most sugary sweet Christian protagonists. In fact, she is lazy and selfish, promiscuous and downright rude, bitter and without remorse. It’s amazing that anyone–including the reader–could find her likeable, much less loveable. Yet we do, and along the way Parrish weaves an engrossing tale of love and betrayal, hurt and healing. With her fallible and therefore credible cast of characters, faith is portrayed not by perfection but by a love that loves in spite of.

Christa Parrish has written a compelling story that lingers long after the last page is turned. I devoured Home Another Way, and I highly recommend it to anyone like me who loves an authentic story of redemption and grace.
