Every single book that I received this week was unsolicited and for review (except Mockingjay (The Final Book of The Hunger Games), which I preordered like every other book blogger in the world). Speaking of Mockingjay, if you are a fan (or a fan of a free Ipod Touch), but sure to click over to enter our very limited Mockingjay Ipod Touch over at 5 Minutes for Mom.
- Little Bear and the Marco Polo (I Can Read Book 1) — I love Little Bear, and I love the Little Bear books. Unfortunately, my 6-year-old son doesn’t get the charm. His loss.
- Side by Side/Lado a lado: The Story of Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez/La historia de Dolores Huerta y Cesar Chavez — I haven’t looked at this bilingual nonfiction picture book, but it promises to be interesting.
Vampire Boy’s Good Night by Lisa Brown — I have looked at this a bit, and the artwork is fantastic. - Outlive Your Life: You Were Made to Make A Difference by Max Lucado — I read this type of Christian nonfiction on my own time, but have usually left the reviewing to Lisa, Carrie, or Lauren. With Lisa and Carrie gone from the team, I’ll take a closer look at these types of books as they cross my desk, including this one.
- Without a Word: How a Boy’s Unspoken Love Changed Everything by Jill Kelly — This is written by the wife of Jim Kelly, Hall of Fame Quarterback. A quick look at the bookjacket promises inspiration and an honest look at the struggles of marriage and parenting an ill child. I’m not sure if I’ll get to this, since my TBR pile is big and looming with deadlines, but if it’s well-done, it seems like it could resonate.
NANCY
For the kids:
- Chicken Big – Chicken Little, except not. My kids loved this retelling of the classic tale.
For me:
- Solid by Shelley Workinger – Shelley was a member of my library book group back in New Jersey, so when she told me she had written a book, I was intrigued. It’s a YA sci-fi novel and it looks really good, and the reviews so far have been stellar.
- French Letters: Engaged in War by Jack Woodville London – I love WWII books, and this is part of a trilogy but the books take place in parallel so you don’t have to read them in order or even all of them. This is the second book so I’m hoping I love it so I can read the first one too.
- Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins – need I say more? I also got The Hunger Games, I already own Catching Fire so now the set is complete.

- Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich – This is the first in a new series that’s a spin-off of the Stephanie Plum books.
LAUREN
The Unofficial Guide: The Color Companion to Walt Disney World– Although I am 36, I love Disney World as much as a child. Our family has visited Disney World almost every year since 2004. Because of this, I have read many Disney guide books. By far, the one I recommend the most is The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World
. If you ever need help with planning a trip, this book is FULL of information. I don’t need the details as much anymore, but I still enjoy reading up and feeling the magic before a trip. This year, I ordered the The Unofficial Guide’s Color Companion
- The Confirmation
– This book is about a conservative president nominating a replacement for the Sumpreme Court, while dealing with other national and international issues. I haven’t read a political thriller in a while, so I am looking forward to this.
- Not Your Parents’ Money Book: Making, Saving, and Spending Your Own Money
– My husband and I try to teach money lessons by example, but my eight-year-old son is ready for more information about money management. I am excited to find out what Jean Chatzky has to say to kids about these important issues.

You’re right – we love those delivery people. I’m interested in the new Evanovich series – somehow I missed that.
The first book releases mid-September, look for my review around the same time. I’m enjoying it so far, shades of the Steph Plum books but a whole new plotline.
I had to laugh at your description of how we love to see the mailman and courier trucks! Sometimes I check my mailbox a few times a day and I suspect my neighbours think I’m looney.
Jennifer, I see you like to read children’s books too. I just discovered The Hunger Games this month, read the first two books and was thrilled when Scholastic sent me Mockingjay. Can’t wait to see how it all comes to an end!

Good stuff! I didn’t receive anything good at all today, but last week was a good mail week. That’s all I remember. LOL.
Great mailbox! I finished Mockingjay yesterday and it was great. I bought it the day it came out! I couldn’t accept the fact that an online preorder might come a day late.

Your loot always makes me envious and Yes LOVE my MAILMAN! Actually I have to put an APB alert since he seems to have been missing this week. Heck I realize that I’ve been gone on holiday… but surely there’s a book somewhere in his bag for me… apart from the bills….
