I read a lot of short stories and am trying my hand at writing a few as well. I LOVED Interpreter of Maladies. Just today I finished her novel The Namesake, which is also very good, though in my opinion her short pieces are stronger.

My book club discuss Interpreter of Maladies this past month and we LOVED it. Most of us had never read short stories before, and her writing really blew us away.

Lahiri’s writing is mesmerizing. And I totally agree with the PPs suggestion of Alice Monro.

She’s an excellent writer. I LOVED “Interpreter of Maladies.”
If you want to read another excellent short story writer, try Alice Munro.
