I'm well aware of the fact that I am sounding like a broken record around here, but my son really, really, really loves ocean animals and so we are on a massive world-wide hunt to find the best books on ocean animals that we possible can! Then, our goal is to read them at least 1,000,000,000 a piece! Memorize them! Sleep with them hidden under our pillows! (You think I jest? Oh no, my friend! Oh no!)
We were delighted to have an opportunity to browse through three books published by Sound Prints, which are a part of their Smithsonian Oceanic Collection.
Behold:
First and foremost, we almost blew a brain fuse when Octopus' Den, by Deirdre Langeland was pulled from the package from Sound Print. These ...

Kyle's Kindergarten teacher is fluent in three languages (English, Spanish, and Portuguese). Before teaching in his school, she taught English as a second language. Because of her interests and gifts, she incorporates a lot of fun and educational language activities. Kyle has learned many songs in other languages, including Jingle Bells in all three of the languages she knows. Each week the class learns to say "Good morning" in a different language. As a result of these fun activities, Kyle has taken an interest in foreign languages that I want to encourage as much as I can.
Mandy and Pandy Play Sports is a fun book I've found to expose Kyle to yet another language.

This Easter season is just slipping away from me! I've been thinking that I really wanted to plan some fun activities for us to do every day to prepare us for the upcoming holiday and it's like I've blinked and the holiday is gone! Gone, but not yet. I still have a few more days to pack in some fun things and two of the books we've included in our Easter celebration are the the following:
Peter Cottontails Easter Egg Hunt is a lift-the-flap board book. I've tried to keep this book hidden but somehow it found its way into Bookworm1's hands and so we cuddle up and went hunting! Peter is hunting for all kinds of goodies in this book - chocolate bunnies, colored eggs, shapes, colors, ...

March and April bring thoughts of jelly beans and creme-filled chocolate eggs (or is that just me)? Bunnies, chicks, lambs, pastel colors and verdant green fill our minds as well.
From the jacket flap:
How can a small sheep become a big orange balloon?
With a lot of imagination and determination anything is possible.
Mathilda and the Orange Balloon couldn't evoke Spring more if it tried. This delightful book by Randall de Seve features Mathilda the sheep, whose world is small, but whose imagination is very big. Jen Corace's illustrations also give it that fresh Spring feel. The sweet drawings pop on a white background.
What happens when Peter Cottontail gets a cold the day before Easter? His friend T-Rex steps in, that's what. ...

I am not a picture book mom -- you know, one of those moms who leaves the library with armfuls of new picture books each week (I happen to know one who not only does that, but is trying to read all of the picture books in her public library. . . . ). I'm not a picture book person, but I am a board book mom. I love board books. Love 'em. The fact that they are relatively low-priced means that I bought them for my firstborn at almost every turn: through a children's bookclub, at the grocery store, discount stores, bookstores used and new. And the fact that they are sturdy means that I could encourage independent play without having to worry about ruining them (I'm sure we all have a few board books that were used as teethers, but ...

Several years ago, one of my friends gave my son a joke book. For the next few weeks, my son followed me around with non-stop jokes. I vowed I would one day have my revenge!
The Best Ever Knock-Knock Jokes for Kids is a wonderful joke book for children. It is filled with good, clean fun. Within its covers are 112 pages of jokes that will keep kids laughing in the car, at home, and on the playground. My own little jokester loved looking through and finding jokes to keep him and his sister laughing out loud.
Truthfully, few things are as sweet as the laughter of a child. Although I like for the jokes to be spread out (rather than hearing all ...

Recently I was afforded an opportunity to check out Where Do I Sleep?: A Pacific Northwest Lullaby which, being that I live in the Pacific Northwest, looked like a pretty awesome book. And it was! I was not mistaken in the least about it's awesomeness. Written by Jennifer Blomgren, this book takes a look at animals that are located over in my neck of the woods, talking about where they sleep and how. Each animal receives about a paragraph of attention like so:
"Where do I sleep? Underneath the low trees,
Close to my mother, my head on my knees.
Someday I'll be grown and my spots will be gone.
I dream of that now; I'm a Blacktail Deer Fawn."
Andrea Gabriel illustrates this book in such a way as to bring ...
