A Different Kind of Storytelling — Audrey Assad Christian Music CD Giveaway

When you are drawn to the story, as I am, you can be touched by any sort of story -- a "reality" show (because, really, we all know that a lot of that "reality" is created in the editing room, right?), a TV series, a movie. But music tells a story as well. In fact, I think that many musicians are our modern day poets. For that reason, I decided to feature a contemporary Christian music CD giveaway that I was offered over at my personal blog right here. Audrey Assad's debut work The House You're Building is awesome. Seriously, I love it. It's somewhat mellow, it sometimes rocks, it's original, and the lyrics are introspective but not overly deep or convicting. Listen to the songs at her myspace or

100 Classic Books on the Nintendo DSiXL

I really wanted to find the biggest picture that I could of the Nintendo DSiXL 100 Classic Books game to give you the best idea of what it would look like. Hopefully this particular picture gives you some idea of the reading experience you can expect to have, courtesy of a Nintendo DSi XL screen! Now the lovely ladies here at 5 Minutes for Books were each given an opportunity to read from this 100 Classic Books game on the new Nintendo DSi XL. As any of you who know me through my book reviews, you know that I like reading with an actual book on my hand. Reading a book on a game console is ...

On Reading: When Real Life and Books Come Together

As everyone knows, books can take you places. Whether you want to visit a different time or location, or whether you want to read about real events or experience a world of fantasy, all you have to do is open the cover of a book. Recently, our family has been able to connect real-life experiences with our books, and that has been a wonderful treat! Last year, my daughter went through an Alice phase (as in Alice from Wonderland). She was Alice for Halloween, she watched the Disney movie many times, and she even got to have tea with Alice when we visited Disney World in December. Although I should have used those experiences as a reason to read the actual story by Lewis Carroll, I didn't...until recently. At the beginning of June, a Nintendo DSi XL

Classics Book Club: The Princess and the Goblin

Attention classic book lovers everywhere! I have a news flash for you! Get this: It is now hip to be square. Yes, indeed, it’s true. Thanks to the 100 Classic Books “game” for Nintendo DSiXL, we who love all things classic can not only be hip but I have to tell you: I’ve also been the envy of at least two young gamers in my circle of acquaintance (who also happen to live with me). I'll freely confess that I’m pretty much old school, like most fans of classic literature, but I really enjoyed the convenience of having so many great novels at the tip of the fingers (or my stylus, as the case may be). Since I was branching out and reading a book in an electronic format, I decided to also choose something a little different ...

Create Your Own Books

My eldest son loves to read and I want to encourage that any way I can. That said, he's really not into art or create anything on his own. When I came across Creativity for Kids: Create Your Own Books I thought that this might be the perfect blend of art and love of reading. I am happy to report that this went over very well and we have been delighted about making our own books! In the Creativity for Kids: Create Your Own Books package you receive two blank books (which I've displayed below for you to get a better idea of what they look like.) Of course, my three year old barely likes to draw ...

St. Patrick’s Day Supplies

Peter Pauper Press has a myriad of paper supplies and stationary with all kinds of designs on them. We've mentioned them a time or two around these parts (being fans and all!) and if you haven't checked out their products, we'd encourage you to do so. Jennifer was the last to mention just how much she enjoys Peter Pauper Press journals and so I am delighted to announce to you that we one to give away with a Celtic design on it. Of course, you don't have to use this journal only during the month of March, in an effort to remember Irish roots or anything. Any time or occasion will do. I use my journal to keep count of my blessings (Bing Crosby style, of course!) Jennifer uses hers to keep track of the books ...

Oh Joy!

I have a deep and abiding love for the sticky note. I can’t live without them. Okay, so I could but why would I want to? Like many bibliophiles, my love for the page is accompanied by a love for stationery products of all kinds, the aforementioned sticky notes in particular, but journals and notecards and labels and file folders capture my affections as well. Most particularly if they are pretty. We bibliophiles like function, yes, but we like aesthetics too. Well, pretty and functional perfectly describe Chronicle Books’ Oh Joy! line of office products. Look how pretty the sticky notes and “to-dos” are: The envelopes that accompany the stationery are as gorgeous as the stationery itself. In addition, Chronicle offers file folders and mailers and a wonderfully useful noteblock, all in the beautiful Oh Joy! design:
